Health Benchmarks Research Demonstrates Improved Cost Prediction Using Regression-Based Methodology

(HBI) presented an original poster titled “Cost-Based Physician Profiling: Increasing Efficiency through Accountability” at the annual research meeting of Academy Health held in Seattle, June 25-27. The research, conducted internally by Health Benchmark staff led by Dr. Yingxu Zhao, demonstrated an improved R-square (0.88) compared to the traditional ETG-mean approach (0.633) by using advanced regression-based techniques, properly grouping, and more accurately filtering data used in economic profiling of physicians. Consultant William Wright presented the research in Seattle and it was well-received by many representatives of health plans, academic institutions and CMS.
