Associate Consultants & Consultants

These positions work with senior research analysts, physicians, programmers, and clients to complete health services research projects for the nation's top managed care companies. Job responsibilities include:

  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses on a broad array of issues across disciplines, projects and functional areas
  • Preparing preliminary interpretations of analyses for project teams, and/or department management
  • Conducting research on identified key business issues
  • Performing ad-hoc analyses
  • Assisting in developing and utilizing data gathering tools, such as surveys/questionnaires, work sampling, financial modeling, and/or interview questions, to ensure that appropriate quantitative and qualitative data is gathered for the analyses
  • Recommending action steps based on the analytic results
  • Preparing reports, synthesizing analytical results, highlighting implications of findings
  • Project managing client deliverables and maintaining project related documentation
  • Assisting in the development of project proposals, recommendations, implementation plans, communication packages, performance measurement tools, and training materials related to the assigned projects

HBI continuously seeks for the following positions

Clinical Development Physicians: HBI is seeking a part-time or full-time M.D. to support clinical and business development related to health outcomes research and other related activities. Ideal candidates would have just completed his/her residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and must have a strong interest in developing a career in the field of health outcomes research. Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management and client engagement expertise
SAS Programmers: This position will be responsible for developing and analyzing large administrative claims databases. Candidate must have 7+ years experience in advanced/complex SAS programming and application development and significant experience working with large databases (e.g., over 5 million records) and data warehousing. Excellent communication skills are required. Knowledge of Visual Basic, HTML, and XML is preferred as well as hands-on involvement in processing data in a health-related field.

SAS Programmer/Analysts: Conduct statistical outcome research, specifying research protocols, and perform required analysis for a variety of health outcomes and healthcare cost-effective research projects, including review and interpretation of results, writing reports and abstracts, manuscript preparation, and presentation of results; develop statistical theory and methods using advanced SAS Programming language to plan and develop date collection methods, analyzing and interpreting large administrative claims data from our data warehouse, studies, surveys, and other sources to provide usable information and study results for clients’ decision-making analysis, health outcomes modeling, system optimization, and compliance assessment; evaluate reliability of source information, adjusting and weighing raw data in the health care industry, conducting multivariate statistical analysis of the data, and organizing and translating raw heath care data into workable solutions tailored to meet clients’ specific needs; undertake historical cost-effectiveness studies of alternative treatment regimens and conducting prospective analysis comparing two or more medical treatments in respect of clinical outcomes. REQUIREMENTS: Master of Science degree in Statistics or Applied Probability & Statistics.

Senior SAS Programming Manager

HBI is seeking a Senior SAS Programming Manager. This role supports the Quality Indicator Development team by carrying out and overseeing programming activities of internal programmers, ensuring timely and accurate programming and validation activities for the development and maintenance of HBI’s inventory of Clinical Quality Indicators. As a senior member of the team he/she will contribute to the overall efficiency and best practices of the Development team, demonstrating the ability to work efficiently and to a high standard within clinical, data-management, and client consulting teams.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Overseeing and managing programming activities and supervising Programmers and their activities including assignment of projects.
  • Developing and maintaining SOPs, SWPs and other related technical documents to increase department efficiency.
  • Working with internal clinical and client consulting  teams  to ensure related timelines are met for producing outputs of clinical quality indicators, final output data sets, tables, graphs,  and maintaining standards for programming activities.
  • Providing programming and validation support for clinical quality indicators to achieve timely progress in the following areas: output datasets, statistical tables, figures, internal and external requests. Accessing and converting data to and from SAS, from PC file formats (e.g., MS Excel, text files).
  • Providing feedback to the Data Management team.
  • Pursuing individual professional development, attending conferences and bringing in new ideas to improve the programming process, leading the development team in the enhancement of internal skills sets.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related science discipline.
  • Extensive Experience with large administrative healthcare claims datasets required.
  • Experience with healthcare terminology, concepts, and practices.
  • Base and Advanced SAS Certification preferred.
  • Management experience in a SAS programming environment.
  • Experience using SAS-Base, MACRO, STAT, GRAPH, ACCESS, MS Office.
  • Proven experience with Windows operating systems.
  • History of working in complex team environments with numerous/diverse stakeholders.

Senior Analyst Developer

Requirement:  Master of Science degree in Statistics or Biostatistics

Develop and create new processes for the SAS team to utilize new functions in the Cost of Care pre-grouping system; work with other associates to develop applications for the indicator development group and medication (NDC) group; review current SAS code lines and streamline for higher speed and efficiency; serve as a backup/senior peer reviewer for other associates and the company; develop a claims warehouse system for better input, storage, and processing; review and peer review recently developed software and run a gap analysis between the new software and SAS; provide guidance and advice to the programming staff.

Chief Scientific Officer / Sr. Health Outcomes Researcher

HBI is seeking a Senior SAS Programming Manager. Chief Scientifc Officer / Sr. Health Outcomes Researcher

The CSO position includes the following duties:
  • Manage overall HBI research agenda
  • Provide management, leadership, and mentoring to HBI research staff
  • Supply analytical and research guidance on all HBI projects
  • Prioritize to meet client needs and foster client relations
  • Facilitate the communication of findings by preparing a variety of research projects, reports, and scientific manuscripts
  • Present research, including dissemination at scientific conferences and submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed scientific journals

The Sr. Health Services Researcher position includes the following duties:
